If you do not where to start with the idea of a spring clean out, remove items that no longer work and are no longer needed as well as items that you do not want anymore. When in doubt, throw it out. Start by checking your kitchen cabinets, pantries and other places you store food. Check the expiration date on all of your canned and dry goods. You can throw away your expired food in your rental dumpster. Next, check drawers and other hiding spots for batteries. Batteries also have expiration dates. Throw out any batteries that are past their expiration date. Lastly, check your medicine cabinets for medication that has expired.

Repairs, Repairs, Repairs

While stuck inside during the winter, sit down and create of list of what needs to be repaired when spring rolls around. While making the list, you may realize that certain repairs need to happen before spring. Leaks in your ceiling may need to be repaired in the winter. Leaks can be devastating; if you have a significant leak, the insulation in your attic is wet and will have to be replaced to avoid mold buildup.

Take Time to Plan

Spring cleaning will make your home cleaner, less cluttered, and healthier. Take the time to plan your Spring Clean Out.  Use storage containers and organizers to gather loose items in your home. Consider using clear storage containers or use labels to mark the container’s contents.

Be sure to double check that you are not throwing away important family heirlooms, family photos, important financial documents, or collectibles.
